"Do
not be conformed to this world, but be transformed..." (Romans 12:2)
It is evident for anyone looking that we live in a fallen
world. From the program line-up of our
favorite network to the barrage of advertisements online, sin seems to have
crept into every crevice of our lives.
Yet, as those who call ourselves Christian, we are called to live
differently, to live out the truth of the Gospel of Christ in word and
deed. In his letter to the church at
Ephesus, Paul explains that living in Christ means, “… put off your old self,
which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful
desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new
self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
(Ephesians 4:22-24)”
Scripture is clear, Christ-followers are to live in the
victory that Christ has already won. You
see, God has already done away with our sin.
He has put to death the old ways and the old man. He has crucified it. So, as Christians, we are called be
intentional in putting off the ways of the fallen world, with its sin and
corruption. Not only are we called to be
careful to abandon the old but we must also put on the new. For you see, not only did God put to death
our sin, but He imparted righteousness! By faith in the work done at the cross we not
only have the old cast-off but opportunity to put on the new. This newness of life gives each the privilege
to be called sons and daughter of God!
The question then arises, as a saved person, are we choosing
to live in His victory?
